ANNOUNCEMENT:

Downtown Farmers’ Market Returns for Winter Season
DOWNTOWN DES MOINES – The Downtown Farmers’ Market – Winter Market will be held Friday, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. located indoors at Capital Square and outdoors at Nollen Plaza, 400 Locust Street in Downtown Des Moines. This is the seventh year for the Winter Markets to be offered.

The Downtown Farmers’ Market – Winter Market is a perfect opportunity to find everything needed for a Thanksgiving dinner, holiday meals, parties, and gift giving. More than 120 vendors will be selling a variety of locally raised products including eggs, beef, pork, duck, turkeys, holiday hams; and, of course, produce – there will be a variety of late season and greenhouse produce available. Shoppers can also expect to find an abundance of fresh homemade products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, soy nuts, homemade noodles, baked breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. Market patrons will also find beautiful flowers such as poinsettias and orchids, hand-made holiday ornaments and home decorations. Prepared food will be available for lunch as well.

“Our Market patrons and vendors have really embraced the two additional winter markets over the past six years. It’s an opportunity for farmers and specialty food vendors, as well as local artists and crafters to continue to sell their product directly to enthusiastic farmers’ market customers beyond the normal farmers’ market season,” explains Kelly Foss, director of the Downtown Farmers’ Market. “The Winter Market also gives customers a chance to stock up on their market favorites to help get them through the winter and the long wait of opening day on Court Avenue.”
The heart of the Downtown Farmers’ Market – Winter Market is a celebration of local food. Patrons will also enjoy the Market ambiance created especially to celebrate the holiday season. In addition, the Markets will features a variety of holiday activities for the entire family, including festive entertainment and kids’ activities.

Vitae Design Collective @ an annual event that has become the quintessential kick-off for the Holiday season for Metro area residents and folks visiting home looking for a nostalgic family event with exciting local shopping opportunities. There will be horse drawn carriage rides, carolers, the Des Moines Ballet will be performing The Nutcracker at Lifeserve (aka the Bloodbank), frieworks, and the traditional City Christmas Tree lighting at the Brenton Skating Plaza (the season opener for them), and this year many stores are participating in a window display contest that will be open for judging. Virtually every merchant in the area will have some kind of in-store event and many are catered. Last year I believe Salon W had a chocolate fountain!
